What Happens to My Normal Skin As I Get Older?
What Happens to My Normal Skin As I Get Older?

Your normal skin has served you well throughout your life. You have suffered very few break-outs and any skin imperfections you have experienced haven't been long-lasting. Normal skin can be very forgiving and, despite a possible neglect of a proper skin-care routine, your skin has stuck by you! However, what happens to it as you age? Should you look after it differently?

As we get older, our skin changes no-matter what skin-type we have. However, for normal skin, this change can seem a little more radical as you have been used to little changes in your skin throughout your life.

As we age, our skin can thin and this makes blood vessels and capillaries more visible. Also, 'age spots' can occur; these are small patches of more highly pigmented skin which can be a result of high sun-exposure.

The biggest change, however, occurs within the skin's connective tissue. This results in a loss of elasticity and plumpness in the skin, particularly around the elbow and knee joints, resulting in wrinkles. A simple test for this is to gently pinch some skin at the elbow – skin with good elasticity will quickly spring back to its original position. However, skin which has suffered loss in elasticity will very slowly move back to its original position and will feel soft and wrinkled. Any cuts or wounds you experience may heal more slowly as the skin is less able to repair itself and heal quickly.

These are all effects of your skin becoming 'mature'. These changes are nothing to worry about and are all normal, natural effects of ageing. However, it is vital that we change our skin-care routine in order to help our skin protect our body through these changes. SkinAu's Mature Skin Pack contains specially tailored ingredients to tackle the problems associated with ageing skin.

SkinAu's Collagen and Elastin Night Cream helps to stimulate cellular function in order to rebuild and repair thinning skin to make capillaries less visible and improve elasticity. Their Deep Nourishing Cleansing Milk deeply cleanses the skin so that, in case of wounds or tears on the skin, the spread of infection is minimised.

SkinAu's Carnosine Cell Repair C+E is a scientifically formulated cream which works to combat and repair damaged proteins in the skin. These damaged proteins are the cause of wrinkles. The cream's anti-oxidant properties aid in the healing of wounds and it helps to create a stronger skin barrier to protect against, and repair, any sun damage.

Noticing these changes in your skin is very important so that you can change your skin-care routine to best protect your skin. If you look after your skin, then your skin will look after you for many years to come!
